Description:

The construction phase is a dynamic time for the project, where the architect has less control, is still required to fulfill their primary duty to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public, and must navigate potential pitfalls of construction contract administration (CCA). Most claims made upon architects are due to some failure of the architect to meet the standard of care during this stage of the project. While an architect’s involvement in CCA is considered necessary to reduce their liability risk, the architect must also be aware of instances where the standard of care may be unintentionally elevated beyond what is required by statute or standard contracts. This course discusses the architect’s standard of care and statute requirements and reviews some examples of contract language that elevates the standard of care during CCA. It concludes with general guidance for lowering risk during CCA.
