Description:

This third course in the building envelope series shifts the focus from climate and typology to the tangible world of building envelope materials. We examine the physical properties, environmental impacts, and selection criteria that shape not just aesthetics and durability but also performance, sustainability, and long-term stewardship.

Participants will develop a critical framework for evaluating material choices—including embodied carbon, durability, recycling potential, and maintenance demands—within the context of climate, assembly, and architectural ambition. The course supports both high-performance design and resource-conscious decision making, giving you the tools to make informed choices for any project.

Each course in this series stands alone and may be taken individually, but together they build a comprehensive understanding of building envelope design.
