Description:
This second course in the building envelope series establishes the fundamentals of weather, climate, and environmental context as the essential groundwork for understanding building envelope performance. Participants will first explore how weather’s day-to-day variability, climate’s long-term patterns, and the broader environmental context determine the design challenges and opportunities for building envelopes.
With these fundamentals in place, the course introduces typologies—structured frameworks for categorizing envelope assemblies and technologies. By examining typologies, participants gain essential tools for analyzing, comparing, and selecting design strategies that align with environmental realities, design ambitions, and economic constraints.
This course equips participants to see the building envelope not just as a technical system but also as a dynamic interface where climate, environment, and human needs converge, preparing them for advanced study or professional practice.
Each course of this eight-part series may be taken individually.
