One of a series of ten mini-monographs about the reasons to conduct and methods to accomplish effective predesign planning in architecture, this monograph covers the techniques and tools used to gather information from publications and records and lists a number of publications about predesign planning and environmental design research. It discusses in detail the different kinds of information needed precommission, for predesign planning, and for design, including published and Internet-based information sources. It describes search procedures to find and techniques to record, review, and summarize the information on a wall-mounted matrix and in digital media. Exercises and references allow the reader to develop knowledge and skills in information search and review. Each mini-monograph of this ten-part series can be taken as an individual course.
